As winter continues to creep ever-closer, so the debate over the pros and cons of winter tyres continues.
But in light of the past two winters, which have seen Britain’s roads grind to a slippery halt as the snows have fallen thick and fast, a new survey highlights the vast majority of UK motorists have little or no knowledge of the benefits of winter tyres.
In fact the survey shows that only 6% of motorists questioned said that they would consider buying winter tyres.
The survey also showed, disappointingly, that 37% of motorists don’t know what winter tyres are and 31% didn’t know that they could purchase them in the UK. Blackcircles.com currently carries a comprehensive range from today’s leading tyre manufacturers.
Surprisingly, younger drivers were less knowledgeable about the benefits of winter tyres than older drivers.
And what are those benefits? Well how about better traction in snow and icy conditions, and better stopping distances.
In terms of cost, motorists questioned in the survey thought that winter tyres were considerable more expensive than normal tyres.
The survey also found that, interestingly, 75% of people said that it was important to stay mobile in winter weather.
So, as winter looms ever closer, it’s definitely worth considering fitting winter tyres this year.
Remember, you only need to run them during the winter months and can switch back to ‘non-winter’ tyres for the rest of the year.
That way you can see your winter tyres as an investment; and an investment which might just save your life when winter bares its teeth.
