Ford will introduce a facelifted version of Fiesta at the end of the year, and Britain’s best-selling car is set to get a sub-120g/km 1.0-litre Ecoboost engine.
Already fitted to the Focus, the excellent turbocharged three-cylinder will instantly save owners of current four-cylinder petrol Fiestas at least 10g/km in CO2 emissions.
And in addition to perking up the Fiesta’s driving style — as well as introducing the ‘fun’ rasp of the three-cylinder exhaust note — it will deliver savings in road tax and fuel economy.
In addition to the 1.0 Ecoboost, the Fiesta will benefit from an extensive range of new powerplants which will be carried over from the Fiesta-based B-Max mini-MPV.
The current 1.4 TDCi will be replaced by a 73bhp
1.5 TDCi and a 93bhp 1.6 TDCi. As with the Ecobosst unit, these two diesels will deliver more power, plus slightly better CO2 emissions.
Styling tweaks are likely to be limited, though they do include the new grille and headlamps, which were first seen on the Fiesta ST.
