Skoda has released images of its production-ready Rapid, the car it believes capable of going head-to-head with the VW Golf and Ford Focus. Due to be launched later this year, it will go on sale in the UK with a budget price starting at £12,000.The car is an evolution of the Vision D concept, and the Rapid introduces Skoda’s new design language characterised by a four-lamp headlight, trapezoidal fog lights and monochrome Skoda badge mounted on the bonnet.
The new Rapid range will include a choice of seven engines — five petrols and two diesels — but Skoda is remaining tightlipped on fine details.
Interestingly, thanks to the Rapid’s long wheelbase and torsion beam rear axle, the car is understood to have more space in its cabin, and a larger boot, than the Octavia.
