Skoda plans Golf-like Rapid hatch

Hot on the heels of Skoda’s unveiling of images of its new Rapid, the Czeck company has confirmed it will also build a conventional five-door hatchback version of the newcomer.

According to boss Jürgen Stackmann, the ‘notchback’ will be shorter than the Rapid and is expected to have a rear-end similar to the VW Golf.

And we’ve already had a glimpse of the new car, albeit in concept form: it was shown at last year’s Geneva Motor Show badged as the Vision D concept (pictured).

The newcomer is expected to be launched towards the end of 2013, but don’t expect a three-door version of the Rapid: according to Skoda, there isn’t the market volume to support it.
