Skoda pushes Octavia upmarket

Skoda has confirmed its new-generation Octavia will “move upmarket”. And the knock-on effect of the new positioning is the entry-level model in the new range will be slightly more expensive than today’s car.

The result is we should expect the new Octavia to be priced closer to both the Ford Focus and Vauxhall Astra.

The new version of the Octavia — which will also include more expensive higher-end versions — is expected to arrive next year.

Based on VW’s new MQB platform, the new Octavia will also be available with both a natural gas version — which is crucial to emerging markets — and a plug-in hybrid.

The increase, both in size and pricing, of the new Octavia has been accelerated due to the arrival of the smaller Rapid (pictured).
