Hyundai’s new Veloster Turbo SE, which enters UK showrooms next month complete with its ‘basking shark mouth grille’, will start at £21,995.
Set to go head-to-head against the performance versions of the Volkswagen Scirocco and Vauxhall Astra GTC, the new ragne-topper adds a twin-scroll turbocharger to the standard Veloster’s 1.6 GDI engine.
The result is 184bhp and a 0-62mph time of 8.4 secs. It’ll also carry on to a maximum of 133mph, return 40.9mpg and emit 157g/km of CO2.
The body control of the new Turbo has been boosted by the fitting of firmer dampers compared to the standard Veloster, making it more suited to European tastes.
Externally, the Turbo gas a number of styling tweaks — including 18in alloys, new bumpers, front grille, rear diffuser and exhaust, plus ‘Turbo’ badges — to differentiate it from the standard car.
Inside, standard equipment includes sat-nav with a 7-inch touchscreen, an upgraded sound system and new leather seats.
