Honda confirms new Civic Type R

Honda will launch a new Civic Type R in 2015. The manufacturer is dominating the British Touring Car Championship with Fifer Gordon Shedden and Matt Neal.

The new Type R will use applications of technologies developed through the World Touring Car Championship” according to company president Takanobu Ito.

Honda enters the WTCC next year, and Ito’s hints suggest the new Type R will be powered by a turbocharged 1.6 litre engine.

Though he would not shed any specific details about the new Type R, Ito did say: “It is important to offer customers something sporty. This car is not about sales volume, but inspiring customers and engineers.”

One of the tasks the engineers have been set is to make the new car the fastest front wheel drive car to lap the Nurburgring. Initially it will be sold only in Europe.

And Ito confirmed development work is currently in progress on a new Jazz-based baby SUV which will go on sale next year. Honda is also known to be developing a new small roadster exclusively for the Japanese market.
