The all-new Mercedes-Benz A-Class is, officially, the most successful model launch in the company’s history. The car arrives in UK showrooms next month.
The German giant has already taken 70,000 pre-orders in western Europe alone, boss Dieter Zetsche said. That’s one for every 10 people that attended pre-launch events.
And Zetsche admitted Mercedes’ absence in key markets — such as the small SUV sector — was the reason why the company was lagging behind Audi and BMW’s growth in China.
“These are not excuses, and we will close the gap in the next five years,” Zetsche, who has set his company the goal of being the largest premium car maker by 2020, said.
