VW reveals all-new VW Golf GTI

This is the all-new VW Golf GTI. Ok, VW says it’s a ‘concept’ but essentially this is exactly how the new GTI will look once it enters production.

The familiar red brake calipers and strip across the honeycomb grille are all present, plus large alloys and black trim on the front bumper.

The GTI also gets a new spoiler at the rear of the car, where there’s also twin tailpipes and a diffuser.

Inside the cabin there’s tartan sports seats, plus red stitching on the steering wheel and gear lever.

It’s expected a turbocharged 217bhp 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine will be fitted, though there’s also talk of an optional performance package which would bring the figure up to 227bhp.

The production GTI is likely to be available with a six-speed manual or a double-clutch automatic gearbox.

The all-new Volkswagen Golf MkVII goes on sale on January 7 next year, with the GTI variant following later in 2013.
