Today the Bridgestone Group, the world’s largest tire and Rubber Company, announced their intention to aid those in China affected by the recent earthquake in Sichuan Province, China.
The devastating earthquake hit the region on Saturday 20th April at 00:02 GMT.
Rescue workers in Chine have been forced into using dynamite and heavy equipment in their attempt to reach the towns affected as roads have been blocked by landslides.
Efforts to reach the towns and villages affected by the natural disaster have been adversely affected, with bad weather and aftershocks causing delays.
It is reported by Chinese media that over 11,500 have been injured since in the wake of the 6.6 magnitude earthquake.
In a short statement on the Bridgestone Company’s website they wrote, “the Bridgestone Group would like to express its deepest condolences to the victims and those who lost loved ones as a result of the April 20 earthquake.”
The company is set to donate 15 million yen (roughly £100,000) to help with the on-going relief efforts – the donation will be made via the Japanese Red Cross Society.
Concluding their statement, they wrote “the Bridgestone Group truly hopes for a swift recovery of the people and the areas impacted by this devastating natural disaster.”
