Seat scooped the top award at the annual Auto Express New Car Awards. The Spanish manufacturer’s Seat Leon took not only the coveted Car of the Year prize, but was also named the Best Compact Family Car.
“We love the Leon’s style, the way it drives, the quality and the kit,” Steve Fowler, Auto Express editor-in-chief, said after making the presentation to Seat chairman Jürgen Stackmann. “Best of all, you get all that at a bargain price, while running costs will be ultra-low, too.
“The Seat Leon has beaten some superb cars to be crowned Car of the Year: it’s that good.”
Stackmann thanked the Auto Express jury for choosing the Leon as Car of the Year.
“The new Leon is the best vehicle in Seat’s history,” he stated. “It is a perfect embodiment of Seat’s transformation and shows the direction we will be taking over the next few years.
“We are very pleased with the reception customers have given the Leon. Since its launch we have sold 45,000 units of the five-door Leon, and this is just the beginning.”
While the Leon, which entered UK showrooms in March, is priced from £15,670, the new Leon SC will arrive across the British network on July 7.
The SC is the first ever three-door Leon and will be joined later this year with the all-new Leon ST estate.
Prices for the Leon SC — Sport Coupe — start at £15,370 and rise to £22,075 for an FR-specification car powered by a 180bhp 2.0TDI engine.
There was further cause for celebration at Seat when its Alhambra won the Best MPV award, for the third year in a row.
