The test was completed in association with Blackcircles.com, so we were also asked for our views on the tyres for their finished article.

Tyre Test – The Verdict

In the end, the top 5 were closely matched, with Goodyear in fourth place with its superb economy and agility. Michelin and Dunlop finished joint second, but ultimately the number one spot had to go to the best all-rounder – the Continental PremiumContact 6.

1st – Continental PremiumContact 6

What Auto Express said:

Simply a great tyre to drive on in wet or dry conditions; strong all-round in every respect.

What we said:

The Continental has proven very popular choice with customers, with reviews praising its grip, handling and overall performance.

Joint 2nd – Dunlop Sport Maxx RT2

What Auto Express said:

The Sport Maxx RT2 is a strong all-round  tyre with impressive deep-water grip.

What we said:

Over 850 customers have reviewed the Dunlop, scoring it 4.6/5. They rate the low tyre noise, smooth driving and strong grip.

Joint 2nd – Michelin Pilot Sport 4

What Auto Express said:

Our former test winner was close to repeating its previous success this time round.

What we said:

A high-scoring tyre among our customers, the Michelin has had positive reviews, where traction, handling and longevity are praised.

4th – Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 3

What Auto Express said:

Asymetric 3 is close to the best on test, with only its wet performance holding it back.

What we said:

Positive reviews and sizes up to 20 inches mean Eagle F1 is a strong favourite with our customers, who like the dry grip and comfort.

5th – Falken Azensis

What Auto Express said:

Promising all-round performance, but the Falken’s fuel economy could be better

What we said:

Not a popular seller for us at the moment, but with impressive reviews and test scores from around Europe, this is likely to change soon.

6th – Pirelli P Zero

What Auto Express said:

Good in wet and dry, but work needs to be done on aquaplaning and fuel economy.

What we said:

Despite its lower rolling resistance scores, the Pirelli is consistently popular with customers, who praise the grip and braking performance.

7th – Bridgestone Turanza

What Auto Express said:

Super frugal, but performance needs to be better balanced across all conditions.

What we said:

New to the market, the T005 has been well received by customers so far; in particular by those who’ve upgraded from its predecessor.

8th – Hankook S1evo2

What Auto Express said:

Solid performance from the Hankook S1evo2 in the face of newer designs.

What we said:

A lower label score for rolling resistance often matches the lower reviews scores we see, with fuel efficiency sometimes questioned.

9th – Nokian zLine

What Auto Express said:

Hopefully Nokian has a new tyre on the way, matching its winter and all-season designs.

What we said:

Nokian is perhaps better known for its winter tyres, so this isn’t as popular with customers. However, it’s scored well when purchased.

10th – Avon ZV7

What Auto Express said:

The competition has moved on since Avon last appeared in our tyre tests.

What we said:

One of our most popular tyres, with over 4,500 customers rating it 4.7/5. Reviewers are impressed with the performance and value.
